Undulation, Undulation II, and Undulation III:
Based on the suggestion of a friend, I decided to try hanging emergency blankets over my windows to help reflect and keep out the hot sun. Well, as an added benefit, I discovered that they make a delightful lo-tech screen-saver slash visualizer, a sort of representation of waves, or tides, the fluidity of air recreating the fluidity of water.
The material even makes sounds that remind me of falling water, the different crescendos and decrescendos of waves on the shore, or the sound of heavy water falling from great height from an ornate fountain or a walk-through water display (e.g., http://www.wetdesign.com/client/universl/universl.htm). Also, if you listen carefully, you can hear birdsong from outside.
The material reflects light in playful, at times hypnotic ways that complement the sounds and movement, at least, to me.
When almost flush against the window, it pulsates, little pockets of air forming and dancing underneath, until the wave completely collapses from the air vacuum and the sheet lies almost completely still and flat.
When the sheet billows up (Undulation III), and then down and up again, it actually takes my breath away.
Gorgeous. Fascinating. Spellbinding. Simplicity and complexity all at once. Each of these its own story. Undulation III probably has the most drama and shifts in mood, and makes an appropriate third act.
(Yes, I'm a dork, but one who can see beauty in the mundane ^ - ^).
