House of Dark Shadows is a 1970 feature-length horror film by Dan Curtis based on his Dark Shadows television series. Filming took place at Lyndhurst in Tarrytown, New York with additional footage at nearby Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Vampire Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) searches for a cure so he can marry the lovely woman who resembles his long-lost fiancée Josette (Kathryn Leigh Scott).

Dark Shadows producer Dan Curtis began pitching the idea of a movie based on his Gothic soap opera hit sometime in 1968. The project was finally given the green light at MGM by company president James Aubrey in 1970. Curtis decided to use the original Barnabas storyline as the basis for the film, but to have it run to the conclusion originally intended for the character: that Barnabas would remain evil and be destroyed for his sins.

Night of Dark Shadows is a 1971 horror film by Dan Curtis. It is the sequel to House of Dark Shadows. It centers on the story of Quentin Collins and his bride Tracy at the Collinwood Mansion in Collinsport, Maine.

Nancy Barrett and Jonathan Frid served as judges for The Miss American Vampire Contest, as part of the promotion of the film House of Dark Shadows. Regional competitions had been held in 10 cities. The final competition took place at the Palisades Amusement Park in New Jersey. Contestants dressed in creepy costumes.

"It was a particularly odd experience," Nancy recalled. "One of the girls stood in front of me and said, 'Am I supposed to smile at your or something?' I said, 'No, that's all right. You can move to the next judge.'"

The winner was Christine Domaniecki. Her prize was a non-speaking role on DS. In episode 1126, she played a barmaid.

  • The woman known as Sacheen Littlefeather, who appeared on the 1972 Oscar telecast to turn down Marlon Brando's Best Actor Oscar for "The Godfather," was supposedly a contestant in the Miss American Vampire contest. I thought she won the contest. However, the woman appeared in public under different names.

  • Thank you! Perhaps the contestant that appeared on the show was just a local or regional winner. I read somewhere that Sacheen Littlefeather wasn't really Native American. Have you heard this rumor?

  • Such cheesy commentary, lol !! Wonder who won the contest and what role they got in the show! Very cool, thanks for sharing this!

  • The winner was revealed in the video description. She played a Blue Whale bar maid in one show. There's no business like show business! Thanks for your comment!

  • Yes, I definitely heard that one. It certainly cast doubt on Brando's stand on Native American rights for the time being.
