Here is the one-and-only Bill 'Mr. Honky Tonk' Doggett going over a tune he would play that night at a Mellon Jazz Festival event in Philadelphia where he would be honored. I shot this video at the sound check for the show (1992). You will see Don Gardner walk up behind Bill to greet him and later, guitarist Eddie McFadden will take a lesson from Bill Doggett on the famous 'Honky Tonk' guitar riffs originally played by Billy Butler (notice how even the great Eddie McFadden has to stop and think about those lines!). No where else will you find video this incredible than in my Doodlin' Lounge. Come visit us soon! www.doodlinlounge.com Thanks, Pete Fallico

  • What a cool bass line this guy has!!!!! Love It!!!!

  • That was an education!

  • I played guitar in Bill Doggett's band for more then 4 yours.

Looking at this video brings back fond memories. It also reminds me of the hard times we had lugging that Hammond b3 up and down two and three flights of stairs on some of the gigs we had(LOL) He was a great musician and wonderful person,he was my mentor.RIP Bill you surly are missed.

  • I've never seen this before and glad to know that I'm not only cat that can't get every tune the first time out. I play Honky Tonk on every gig I can. This is the tune that got me hooked on the Tenor sax, back in 1958!

  • Mr.Doggett is one hell of a fine musician, and all around stand-up guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him, and watching his band perform on numerous occasions. Back in the day; at the Theartical Quarters, on Short Vincent, in Cleveland. He treated people from all walks of life, one and the same. He was a good hearted man, who is dearly missed on the scene. We should start a petition to have him inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. They need to recognize his talents and contribution.

  • Billy Butler, Eddie McFadden!

    Now you're talkin'!!

    Brilliant overlooked guitarists.

  • Doggett is great, thanks for the vid.
