American Girls Circumcised

Like its male counterpart, circumcision of females has two histories. First it is a ritual or customary practice among tribal societies (mostly in Africa) and some Islamic communities. Secondly it is a medical intervention, justified by Victorian (and, in the USA, some twentieth century) doctors in exactly the same way as they rationalized circumcision of boys: to deter masturbation, to treat obscure nervous disorders such as hysteria, neurasthenia and epilepsy, and thereby to promote health.

Clitoridectomy and other circumcision-like operation on girls and women had a longer career in United States, where doctors deplored Baker Browns disgrace and The Medical Record defended him with the question "What now will be the chance for recovery for the poor epileptic female with a clitoris?"

There was also a vigorous attempt to apply the theories of Lewis Sayre that many nervous diseases were caused by a tight or non-retractable foreskin to women, and a number of doctors urged that girls also should have their clitoral hoods excised if there was any suspicion of adhesions of the accumulation of "secretions".

In 1892 another defender of Brown (he was "almost on the right track"), Dr Robert Morris, went so far as to suggest that, since 80 per cent of American women suffered from preputial adhesions, all schoolgirls should be inspected to ensure that proper separation between prepuce and clitoris had occurred. He was apparently confident that most of the girls would require surgery, and added: "The separation of adhesive prepuces in young unmarried women should be done by female physicians anyway, and such physicians can be abundantly occupied with this sort of work". It was a valiant effort to expand the market for medical services, and he must have been disappointed that his suggestions were not more widely taken up.

Even so, articles on the virtues of female circumcision continued to appear sporadically in American medical journals until the 1960s, and there are regular reports of girls or women being subjected to various procedures, particularly the shortening of their labia or clitoris when parents or a husband judged them "too long". As with circumcision of boys, the medical case for female circumcision has always contained a strong element of cultural or aesthetic preference.

I agree wholeheartedly, male or female circ of infants and children need to be made illegal. Once a person becomes a legal adult they can decide for themselves if they wants to do this.

Whilst of course it's a human rights outrage to inflict circumcision on females, it is a criminal offense in western societies and has been for over 20 years, BUT MALE CIRC IS NOT AND MILLIONS OF MALES IN USA OR FORCED TO UNDERGO THE PROCEDURE AFTER BIRTH.............. I am the author of "The Rape of Innocence: Female Genital Mutilation and Circumcision in the USA" -- i have met a woman who was circumcised in 1970. They still cut little girls with "too big" clitoris -- often a symptom of CAH - congenital adrenal hyperplasia. have knife, will cut.

@lyricsma LOL thank you, but for number 4 all the vaginas ive encountered have been patients (obviously im gay) and by patient I mean I work in a hospital so those particular vaginas have been seen by a doctor (not me thank god) ever open a door to a room at 90 degrees with the patient under several blankets entering the room is stepping into the "invisable wall" my nose fights to exit the room .....

They would have to kill me before I would let anyone circumcise my son. 3. I know next to nothing about the jewish faith, so i have no comment to defend it. 4. A healthy vagina does not smell. If all the crotches you have encountered have had a rank odor then tell the poor gal to get to a doctor because she probably has a nasty infection.

I agree circumcision is HARMFUL to ALL people not just one gender, however to those females that think all men should be cut with or without his consent, should by law be required to undergo the same treatment clitoral hood circumcision see how they like a scared up snatch.

@lyricsma @lyricsma 1- A female whore aka "doctor" cut me. 2- females are always self entitled, as in entitled to a intact genitalia prootected by federal law, yet also entitled to "socially" force a male to have cut genitalia due to her ignorace in believing that a intact penis will somehow magically give her cancer of the cervix. 3- jewish religion by women for women (read between the lines of the jewish faith) 4- There is no odor eater strong enough to take that rank smell away.
