  • Same thing for me too! I think I went inside the 311 with an employee in the Rutland yard. He even started it up for me, pretty cool folks! I love the VRS crew!

  • Oh I know this crossing ALL too well. This is over by the state fair grounds at the end of the yard. Very cool!

  • where was this?

  • Same thing happened to me last Summer! Apparently the Vermont Railway tends to hire nice employees!

  • @sticklets87 My wife and I were making our way to the passenger depot at Bellows Falls, VT a few years ago. We took a wrong turn and ended up at the freight station instead. I saw an employee there and asked if we could take some pictures. Not only did he allow us to take pictures, he took us on a private tour in the cab of one of their locomotives. It turned out the gentleman was one of the engineers. He was super nice to us. Kudos to the staff of the Vermont rail System!

  • Wow, the Vermont Railway must have really nice employees! I wish they let me in the Rutland shops! And when I rode the Champlain Valley Flyer last weekend, it had a GP40, But since it's a freight railroad, they just kinda use any of their locomotives for the passenger excursions. I think #405 is an ALCO, it often pulls the Green Mountain Flyer, another Vermont Railway passenger train.

  • Sweet! That has an ALCO on it right? And.. well it was my birthday and I was kinda trespassing around the yard. The road was pretty much closed for the night.. and an engineer was driving out of the yard and saw me. He rolled down the window and said whatcha doing? My Dad was like "he's a railfan and it's his birthday so he's taking pictures". The engineer said "walk down there, I'll give you a tour." I toured the engine house, the yard and the cab of #301 (which I LOVED!!!) It was nice

  • I was in Burlington just last weekend for the Champlain Valley Flyer train. So the RR employees let you look around in the shops?

  • No problem! You have pretty steady hands, so it doesn't matter. I saw 312 when she was getting tuned up in the Burlington shops. Awesome location too!

  • Thanks! It would have been better if I had my tripod though, But I didn't really have time to set up.
