A visit to Bressingham Steam Museum, situated a couple of miles from Diss in Norfolk. There are four running lines at Bressingham. The Standard gauge line, the 2ft Gauge Nursery Railway, the 15inch gauge Waveney Valley Railway and the 10.25inch gauge Garden Railway.

On the day of my visit, NSB 21c class No. 377 "King Haakon VII" was working on the Standard gauge line, giving footplate rides to visitors over the age of 13. Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0ST No. 1643 "Bronllwyd" was working trains on the Nursery Railway, which passes over the 15inch gauge line a couple of times. Krupp built 4-6-2 Pacific No. 1662 "Rosenkavalier" (sister loco to Black Prince on the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway and Männertreu on the Waveney Valley Railway at Bressingham) was working trains on the Waveney Valley Railway. The fourth and final railway, the 10.25inch gauge Garden Railway, saw 0-4-0ST tender loco No. 1 "Alan Bloom" work trains along the line.

Enjoy.

  • It's a wonderful day out there Craig, with all trains beautifully choreographed so that which ever one you're on you will pass and run along one of the others on your way around the system. Excellent video capturing all the different gauge action...5* Bob

  • no.377 is a lovely little engine, i i think about a year ago, she was working the santa specials, its good to see her still in steam :)

  • It's only a shame that the Bressingham museum is a shadow of its former self. Since Alan Bloom's demise, it's really gone downhill. Many of the best exhibits have been lost. It was really at its peak in the late 70's/early 80's.

  • Cheers David! I would love to see King Haakon on the K&ESR one day, double heading with Norwegian! Would also love to see Rosenkavalier double head with sister loco Black Prince on the RH&DR!

  • that's a nice place, might go again

  • Say its a wonderful day out at Bressingham indeed i went the Day after you what an expirience it was! All three running lines were full steam ahead i went on all 3 Narrow-Gauges Standard Gauge dint seem to be running that day.
