CrazyTalk did much the same thing, although it was a lot of work to get the final result. I did one with CrazyTalk-- Picard Song, somewhere here on YouTube.

This video was shot at the 2007 Game Developer's Convention. The company showcasing the technology was called Silicon Studio, out of Japan. It was amazing enough to see your own head moving about and eating bugs in just seconds, but the effect was even more impressive when they showed what could be done given a bit of time to refine the mapping. They had anime characters, the Mona Lisa and Marilyn Monroe doing the animated portrait thing with such detail that it made my jaw drop.
