do the bullets explode in the air or come back down to earth or what?

By the way, the 7.62 round is the same thing as a 30-06 round. You know, a round that was introduced in 1906!
So yeah, that's not exactly a "modern" round!
And the 5.56mm round has serious problems piercing even the most rudimentary of obstacles, so it's not a good option against enemies in cover!
It all comes down to Joules.
-
It's true that 7.62mm is usually enough to get the job done at half the cost.
However, when you include things like distance and velocity reduction upon penetration, the .50BMG still has it's place in an army's arsenal.
-
Let me get this straight.
You're going to somehow sprint behind "cover" after having several .50BMG rounds sprayed in your direction from the vantage point of a Humvee?
Even if you miraculously didn't get gutted and splattered into little bits of goo, your cover would only last a couple of seconds (and you risk taking pieces of brick to the face).
No, there is no running from a .50BMG MACHINEGUN! That's stupid!
I own a Katana and I think that's stupid!

@manictiger case in point, the mg 74.
-
@manictigeran rpm of 450, and its incredibly loud signature means you'll hear it coming in more then enough time to get the hell out of there. and virtually all urban cover is ueless against almost all modern gpmg's, which have half the weight and ammo costs half as much. the only advantage is it's cheaper to maintain the old m2's then to replace them with a more modern weapon. it's also why america hasn't replaced the m16, even though it's clearly out classed by more modern assault weaponry.
-
Except that it's not bad for anti-infantry.
Virtually all urban cover is useless against it.
Bricks, reinforced technicals (fancy word for militarized trucks)... It's all going to disappear in the M2's wake!
But yeah, not good against jets. This turret is probably a non-functional museum piece, but the M2 is still a perfectly viable weapon and it's used on many vehicles around the world, to this day.
i need this against angry birds xD
