Slating is the act of saying your name at the beginning of your audition, most notably used in commercial casting. Lonnie Del Mar is the premier slate coach in Los Angeles. Years of teaching have led to this: a documentary chronicling his genius. You get an inside look as a film crew follows Lonnie instructing a group of actors in his extensive 12 week slating course.

The teacher or Lonnie Del Mar is actually one of the characters in The Mentalist. He is the character named Brett Pathridge. I also belive him to the Red John... =) Or his helper... Or may be he's being black mailed... Uhhhm.. My head...
