  • I actaullay prefer Wlson to Miles Davies. You think I'm crazy? Listen to the drive and the virility of Gerald, no contest.

  • @MrJazzologist1 And what about Philly Joe Jone´s variations / displacements on the use of the snare with cross sticks, soometimes accentuating the 2nd , sometimes the 4th quarter note on the album of the same name ?

  • @RareJazzVideos Also, don´t forget : we are comparing two very different groups, with different musicians and a considerable difference in the quantity of musicians on each one.

  • Great video! Great piano solo by Jackie Wilson! Brings back memories of LA. Saw the band (but not with these 'name' players) live @a free concert @MacArthur Park back in the ? early 70s? Can't remember exactly when but I remember the concert & Gerald Wilson standing out in front of the stage in the band shell, proud & tall & wearing a white suit & conducting his exciting big band. And I was standing right in the front of the stage so I could see & hear everything up close. Thank you.

  • @adeduction Great ! That is history.

  • ndodro, Miles has given jazz much. He was an introspective and unhappy man deep inside - as were most of the best of jazzmen. Emotions and the realities of human life clash too easily, which is why so many jazz musicians have so much sadness in their lives.

  • I used to hear gerald's band playing this tune on Sid Mccoy's jazz radio station out of Chicago early in the morning in 1963. He also played Nancy Wilson and called her the Baby.I think Carmell Jones was the trumpet player on the recording of this .Do anyone remember that ?

  • @MrJazzologist1 The more so then, Miles is to the contemporaries like Homerus was to the Greeks.

  • Rare jazz videos. As a drummer, I must tell you Philly Joe is one subtle and pleasing drummer.I could go on all night about the great and exciting jazz personnel of the world. They have lifted me above the mundane wotrld since I was seven years of age and first heard Stephan Grappelli. Just seven and I was lost.

  • I will always remember seeing the GW band at the Lighthouse Cafe. Back in the 60's, when the band was there, so was I. For me, the best. Hope you appreciaate his band and talents as well.

  • Bravo Gerald Wilson Orchestra-anyone who has ever played in his band-even today!

    Thanks
