Eyewitness video of a truck fire at the intersection of Talbot Road and Maidstone Avenue, Essex, Ontario. The fire happened on May 9, 2011. The driver of the truck was alerted to flames coming from his vehicle by another motorist, so he quickly pulled off the road and got out. He very wisely removed some bags of fertilizer in the truck bed, and removed the gas cap. The tank was only 1/4 full. It had been burning for about two minutes by the time I got the video started, and you can hear when the firetrucks arrive. Five minutes is all it took to completely gut the truck.

Word to the wise, if ever you're in a car fire - GET OUT IMMEDIATELY! You don't have time to worry about what you're going to lose inside of it.

  • unprepared firefighters sheesh

  • @Specrotors Uhhhh.... what?? The truck was already a total loss by the time they got there. And I don't know about you, but simply hooking up a hose to hydrant and pouring water on flames is dangerous. They have procedures to follow, mostly for their own safety, and for the safety of the general public. They were prepared, but also cautious, as they are supposed to be.

  • @va3css What procedures, not catch the closest hydrant on the way in, tie up an entire intersection with a fire that should have been handled with the booster tank on board. They were ready to go at 3:30 just give them some water and foam.

Not sure what the PASS alarms are through out the call - cara alarm hahaha. Someone doesn't know ther SCBA.

  • @iknow8425 Fresh new YouTube account and already commenting on this? I'm not going to join in on your firefighter vs. firefighter challenge. If you think you can do things better, then by all means, call them and apply for a job as Deputy Chief. Or perhaps you can post a video of your own with that new account that shows everybody how it should be done.

  • @va3css New account yes and my original comment was directed at Specrotors, not you, sorry. I have many years of fire service, most as deputy and chief. I rewatched the vid to see if I was too harsh. I thne noticed the poor positioning of the apparatus down wind of the fire with no one one SCBA around the truck, and then the fellow with half his PPE on running past a burning truck with exploding shocks. I can only assume that at some point they actually put the fire out. It is a good vid.

  • @iknow8425 I didn't pan the camera, but just to the right of the view, downwind of the fire, is a gas station / convenience store on the corner. One truck was parked on the left lane of the road in front of said gas station. A police cruiser in front of him. The only traffic allowed through were those turning in the direction the burning truck faced. Although I ran out of battery, the fire was out about 40secs after the video ends.
