Diana Rhoten is director of the Knowledge Institutions program and the Digital Media and Learning project at the Social Science Research Council in New York. With funding from the MacArthur Foundation, Rhoten is leading the Learning Networks project in New York City, which uses a design-driven methodology to help institutions develop collaborative and interactive ways of crafting digital media and learning activities.
"We have a mandate and we have a mission. We want to go through this process, at the end of which we can demonstrate what digital media learning tools can do," Rhoten stated. (3:28) "Learning the content [...] is very much the 20th century idea around education. But, in the 21st century, it's learning the tools and the skills of remaking that content, becoming the creator and the producer." (3:07)
Rhoten also spent two years as the founding program director of the Virtual Organizations and the CyberLearning programs in the Office of Cyberinfrastructure at the National Science Foundation. Diana is serving as the Chair of the DML Conference 2012 (http://dml2012.dmlcentral.net). You can follow Diana Rhoten's Tweets at http://twitter.com/drhoten.
