Clare Oliver - Sunsmart tv ad (February 2008)

Clare Oliver died from melanoma in September 2007, caused by a combination of solarium use and unprotected outdoor exposure to the sun's UV rays. Media publicity about her plight in August 2007 resonated across Australia and forced Victorian government regulatory action on the salorium industry in that state. (Previously, there were none anywhere in Australia, only a voluntary code of conduct)

This TV ad released in February 2008 (compressed from 16:9 to 4:3 format) features her making a public plea to others not to make the same mistake.

I know her neighbour and someone who used to go her school. Don't believe all the bullshit. Claire Oliver went to a solarium 2-3 times a week. She was in there every second or third day. She was obsessed with having a tan 24/7 the whole year round.

She did this for a number of years straight. She is an extreme case. If you do extreme things you will pay the price.

You dont see alcoholics telling everyone not to drink. Be responsible and dont be an idiot like she was
