For all that don't know NASA and DARPA have been working on a projectile that is flown to the edge of earths atmosphere and is essentially bridged off of the rocket that brought it up to the edge of the atmosphere. This projectile is supposedly able to reach speeds up to Mach 20 (I believe). Later on, when this is perfected it will be able to create the damage of a nuclear explosion without the radiation. But then again this is another experiment by DARPA

common scientists (independent companies) involved in developing standard material/accessories not knowing for what kind of purpose they are going to be used. We are talking about 20% of the entire work/project. (approx.). One cannot talk about job-creation in this case. Its a simple waste of money. We got, worldwide, way bigger problems! The US has to learn how to handle its monetary politics, for they simply got none and keep borrowing. I feel sorry for the people in the US.

Defense projects take on various types of existing and new personnel for new projects. And there are plenty of specialized scientists involved in projects such as these. Not sure what you mean by a "common scientist."

It has created jobs??? We are talking about secret and senseless military projects! During such projects you just restructure your staff to work for "high" priority projetcts. There are no common scientists involved in the main part of such projects! Besides, where are they taking the money from? The US never had its own money for all of its projects. They have been borrowin all along because of their paranoia. There is no long term "creation" of jobs in that business!
