The constant loud flapping noises are people's ponchos flapping in the strong winds at the base of the falls. We definitely needed the ponchos that we were given by the operator of the 'Maid of the Mist' boats (there were three operating that day) -- we all got absolutely soaked, especially a few minutes later when the boat moved up into the spray for the massive Horseshoe Falls. The trip on the 'Maid of the Mist', the embarkation point for which is on the Canadian side of the Niagara Gorge, is just one of the many attractions and experiences included in the Mauiva AirCruise East tour package. I enjoyed the inaugural Mauiva AirCruise immensely and I think it's a very good idea, as it cuts out dozens of hours of ground travel, loads of hassle and (perhaps most of all) having to deal with TSA security checkpoints at commercial airports, since all of the air travel involved is from classy business-aviation terminals.
