Encore, from 1993 not long after we got it. It is, to be honest, a dramatically different beast from the Encore of today. Encore was originally a sort of more contemporary American Movie Classics, focusing on movies from the 60s, 70s, and 80s - it says this in the ident. It's also quite well produced. They tried to make the junctions entertaining, rather than just a batch of promos for upcoming movies:

--Just ending is a roundup of the hot movies... airing on the OTHER PREMIUM CHANNELS! This is where it cuts in - right after a plug for TMC's premiere of "The Gun In Betty Lou's Handbag". This was dropped soon after Encore relaunched in 1994 and gave birth to Starz - after all, why plug HBO when you now have a direct competitor?

--Next is the Entertainment Forecast for the next seven days - i.e., all the primetime flicks Encore's playing. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were "premieres", although I'm not sure what exactly constituted an Encore premiere at that point.

--Then, the hosted segment - "Encore Feature", with David Willis. Very much like AMC, but in keeping with the more contemporary feel David is in what looks like a video store rather than a grand movie theatre.

--After that, a nice touch - text data about the movie, who was in it, who directed it, when was it made, what studio made it, and how long it is!

--Finally, the ident/movie open/rating (or lack of it). This was all one thing, then was broken into several things when the network revamped in 94.

Encore gradually transitioned to a more conventional premium channel style, dropping the forecasts, the offbeat promos, and the plugs for HBO and Showtime. Hosted segments lingered on until about 2003 or so, and were adopted on Encore's themed sister networks, eventually gaining celebrity hosts. It's especially fun to see Encore Western's hosted segments with Dennis Weaver, which always devolved into pointless anecdotes that have nothing to do with the movie.

  • HulkieD will you upload Encore Movie Channel from 1995

  • I would, but I can't; I didn't have the channel from 1995 to 1999 when they made it basic.

Encore was available free for the first month and then became a premium channel thereafter. We already had three of them: HBO, Showtime, and Disney (remember that?).

Comcast WOULD, however, unlock all of the premium channels for the first Friday of each month. That's how I got some Encore stuff from 1994 when they had that killer look.

  • Wow, I miss the good ol' days of ENCORE and its format. When we live din Redlands, CA, this was great to see movies like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Hello Dolly!, Midnight Cowboy, Kansas City Bomber, Jesus Christ Superstar, and so many others. Thanks for bringing back those memories with this clip, :D.

  • NOT RATED! STEREO! (with fanfare) lol

Didn't know Encore is still around. Even AMC isn't anything like it used to be.

Thanks for posting this. I miss that Encore theme music.

  • God I miss the old Encore channel from the early 1990s, I'd give anything to return back to that era, I also miss the way AMC used to be as well

  • @JHollowayNetwork yes i some encore graphics from 1995.

  • encore was there before it mixes to starz in 1994

  • Encore Movie Channel is now owned by Starz Entertainment.

  • but could you upload some Encore stuff, from 1994.

  • I loved the old Encore music. I remember when it started on TCI Cable here in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This replaced The Movie Channel.

  • Will You Upload some More Encore stuff soon

  • will you upload Some Encore stuff from 1994

  • Between 1991 and 1999, there were usually "information" that Encore provided before the movie started about what the movie was about, trivia, the actors/actresses that were in the movie, and other information, which was also similar to Turner Classic Movies, which currently does that. That was all dropped and retired when Encore rebranded their logo and channel, calling themselves "The New Encore" for a short period of time in early September 1999.

  • i search for a promo, may be is when finish the movie and start the promo, "next" have a melody that is: na, na. na na na ... na na na na. sorry for my poor explain, but thanks in advanced.

  • Encore was launched on April 11, 1991, from TCI Cable, and as "IT", and YOU say, HulkieD, it was mainly focused on movies from the 60's, 70's, the 80's, and even some films from the 50's. This logo only lasted from it's debut in 1991, until February 1, 1994, when it launched Starz!(which it was then known as until 2005), and the then-new eight additional Encore Multiplexes(Love Stories, WAM!, The Western Channel, The Mystery Channel, among a few others), that used "Encore" numerals until 1996.
