Swiper no swiping!!!

My bank sends out replacement cards every couple of years, free of charge and we don't have to remember to do it ourselves.

cell phones can also de-magnetize hotel key cards. I learned that from personal experience.

Spouse or stay-at-home adult child; is this two things, or the same thing?
-
i think that plastic bag just adds distance from whatever reads the card

Alright, this is what I -heard-. Nothing to do with nicks and scrapes, but more something to do with the static electricity in the bag. You can get the same effect by rubbing the card on your hair or nylon pants... but not exactly proper in front of customers.
I never understood why Dora the Explorer was education for people of all ages.... and now I do! All those times she kept saying "Swiper No Swiping!" It all makes sense!

Hey american friends! Do some lobbying to force your banks to switch to smartcards. They use an electronic chip instead of a magnetic strip. No demagnetization problem and they are much safer. We've had them in France for years and they work like charms. :)
