RC Airplane led night flight aircraft sunset at Los Banos SBSS 2009

This flight did not go as well as I had hoped. With the additional weight of the lights and batteries not to mention the upgraded motor battery, the airplane did not glide as well as in previous flights. almost all my landings were bad, In previous flights I shut off the motor & the aircraft would glide back to a soft landing, old habits die hard, on one of the landings I broke the tail (repaired & flew later that night) then the speed control & BEC burned up after landing. The motor power setup is better than I thought it would be, except for the burned up speed control. the aircraft is down for repairs. I hope to fly in the SF bay area by May. looks beautifull, i have been thinking of trying night flying to extend the sessions during our dark british winters. i have a quick question for you if i may, do you use while leds and coloured film or clear film and coloured led's ? your help would be much appreciated.

@richardjweeks The led's are colored, they are then stuck on top of the colored monokote.

I have one strip of those LED lights and can run them off a garage door battery. One strip has about 65 lights I believe. So my question to you is what battery did you run all those lights off of?

The LED are powered by three separate 3 cell 2100 Mah li-po batteries. I have 5 meters of red & 5 meters of green in the wing run by a single 2100 Mah 3 cell lithium polymer battery.

I have 5 meters of blue on the tail & 5 meters of white on the sides of the fuselage run by another 2100 Mah 3 cell lithium polymer battery pack.

And finally there is 10 meters of white LED on the bottom of the fuselage run by a third 2100 Mah 3 cell lithium polymer battery.

Yes, material cost is about $1500 then labor for the 3 week build would be another $1500 then there is the delivery cost...

very nice im just started night flying and ill post the video soon. im using a slow stick and a 73inch wing cub the slow stick is all white and my cub is colored like this one flying
