Thanks for reviewing illume OS 1.0! The "How-to" documentation on how to install it is in the Support page on the illume OS website. Just click on "Read the “Getting Started” guide" ;)

Sneeky, congrats on reaching past video 500!! I would love to know how much ram and cpu this uses on startup if you do a full install.

Hi, again, do you use Virtual box, vmware or anyother VM environment like qemu? to test all these distro's?
If so what are your thoughts of emulation , versus native installs?
My personal opinion is that native installs might be a tad bit better as you know that it will give you a more truthful result than emulation as emulation in my experience causes totally different behaviors and results than installing to the hard disk drive
But I want to hear your view...
Thanks

@ApocalypticWinter am glad you have asked this, as i have said before, i normally install to a real machine first as i have a dedicated test machine(that eats hard drives at an alarming rate) but for the video's sometimes i will do it in vb, as some of the more obscure distro's that i look at you can not record with, but i now have a new method of recording my screencasts so this will now be no problem as long as i have 2 puters...lol

@sneekylinux Speaking to the eating HDs at alarming rates, do test boxen just eat flash media at alarming rates if you manage to connect USB 3.0 or SATA-II flash devices (keyfobs and SSDs, respectively) instead? I keep hearing on the component side that flash write has hit the bit of the reliability J curve where reliability goes transfinite, but a sysadmin podcast cited server per-SSD swap rate as weekly. C'mon FRAM!

@Cineenvenordquist from my own experience, for me a normal sata drive can do up to a 24 months of constant use, after that i don't take any chances, but some of these drives are still working today, but i must say all but one of them is western digital.
as for flash media i have found that you get what yee pays for really, all my kingston stuff is fine but the chepo's after constant re writes am lucky with a year.

@Cineenvenordquist as for ssd's, i am not rich enough to have any at the moment, but on systems for peeps i have installed them on, for normal use i have had no failures in 12 months, but i do intend on trying one for myself in the new year..
