@OGJRebeL In Mel Gibsons film The Passion , both Pilate and Herod come across well ,the Jewish high Priests don't but I always felt sorry for Pliate , I think that is where the phrase between a rock and a hard place came from .

@TrelliaChan I find it interesting that all of the traditional villains, save Herod, come out looking good. Judas and the priests - completely valid concerns about the consequences of the messianic bent Jesus is taking...Pilate, completely understandable reluctance to play his part in the gruesome theatrics of putting what he sees as (at worst) a harmless loon to death.
Makes Herod's remaining a straight up cackling villain a bit interesting.

Does anyone else remember Dennis DeYoung of STYX performing Pilate in the 25th anniversary touring production of SUPERSTAR with Ted Neely as Christ, Carl Anderson as Judas and Syreeta Wright as Mary?? I saw it in NYC at MSG. He was excellent and had the perfect sound for it.

Besides from Jesus I have deep respect for Pilatus in this movie, he tries to save him in a way, he tries to understand him. Respect. And ofcourse he is a amazing singer!

@TrelliaChan God used Judas as a tool and Pilate was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Pilate died a Christian in exile. I'm glad the writers made them human
One of my favorite things about Jesus Christ Superstar is it took the reviled figures of Judas and Pilate and made them so dynamically human. It makes the whole story so much more complex and affecting, interesting and heartbreaking.
