Victorian Teachers Deserve Better
Victorian teachers work very hard to maintain a high standard of education even though they are the worst paid in Australia.
Government schools in Victoria are losing experienced and highly trained teachers to non-government schools where they can earn up to $20,000 a year more.
Over the past decade, the number of full-time teachers in government schools has increased by 10.5%, compared with 38% in non-government schools.
Victorian teachers are the lowest paid in the nation. Those at the top of the scale receive 15% or nearly $10,000 per year less than their New South Wales counterparts.
Apart from poor pay and conditions, the high level of contract employment is discouraging new teachers from the profession.
