I saw this video only once in television. It was in 1989 on MTV Europe.
I probably said to myself: It's ok, to create a clip about getting old, but why in Black&White?
Of course, I was much younger and inexperienced, and we recently got our first color tv that time.
Newer saw the clip again for nineteen(!) years, until I searched for it here...

My 21 year old son died seven years ago today. I hurried and put a video to have at the funeral, and had to include this as one of the songs in it. I can still remember the "we'll all be rock-n-roll stars" verse was timed perfect with a picture of him and two friends of his all looking cool in their sunglasses. Very sad today, but had to watch the video again. Thank you.

I'm just getting back into Joe's old stuff. I bought a greatest hits cd last week and this song was the last one on it. After listening to all my old favorites 100 times, I found this tune at the end and loved it. Like most here I'm getting on in my years and this song talks to me.

"Only my mirror sees me crying
Each time I lose another year . . ."
Damn, I became 19 when this song came out in '89. And the mirror...?? Well, forget about it!!

I was a tiny bit more than nineteen when I first heard this masterpiece and although even back then I was never really gonna be 35,it certainly has fuelled my dreams of not compromising the magic of Life, thank you Joe.

This song popped up on my Slacker account today. I had totally forgotten it existed. When it first came out in 1989, I was still a kid.... there was this girl in school (last saw her in college in the 90s). She passed away a few years ago. This song reminded me of her. I should have contacted her before it was too late, just to say "Hi!".

Nice clip. It irks me though that the German captions are grammatically completely incorrect.

Agreed! Joe Jackson really is criminally underrated. His material is timeless and I never get tired of it! This song especially means so much to me.

joe jackson is the most under rated songwriter britain has ever produced. personally i think he's the best we have produced and this album is probably the best he ever did, he tells such a great story with fantastic words and music on blaze of glory its untrue. i saw him do this live in london as the album was just about to be released. i bought it straight away and still love it 24 years on,it never ages, but then again nor do any joe jackson songs age. listened to look sharp last week ageless

Saw him perform this at New Orleans' Saenger Theater in 1989. It was one of my very first concerts and I can still remember how the gorgeous harmonies on this and all the "Blaze Of Glory" tunes knocked me out. This really should have been a hit, especially with this great video. Its sophistication reminds me of the video the surviving Beatles did for "Free As A Bird."
