Two young women are selected from each ALA Girls State program to attend ALA Girls Nation, where they become "senators" who meet for a weeklong immersive-learning mock government program in Washington, D.C. After running for office, electing a Girls Nation president, and campaigning for the passage of mock legislation, the participants then meet with real-life national government leaders, including the President of the United States.
