This video shows the button interface for Reactrix's prototype system for 3D interaction using hand gestures. The button interface was designed to prevent accidental triggering due to user hand motions while rapidly recognizing an intent to trigger.
The system used a near-infrared stereo camera and an LED-based infrared pattern projector to pull in a high quality 3D image of unmarked users under widely varying illumination conditions. The system could handle multiple simultaneous users at a distance of up to 15ft.
A small number of these systems were deployed in public venues during the summer of 2008 for interaction testing before the company went out of business.
Publicly shown at EDT-IPT 2008.
