Some artists do slow it down a tad. However, I think It always feels slower by almost a half when it actually isn't, because we're suddenly pulsing in quarter notes instead of eighth notes.
VERY VERY NICE!!!! congratulations... i was just looking for a new sonata to play... i didn't like too much this one untill now that i have listened to you... thanks
Another interesting question about tempi arises in relation to the third movement (also expertly played here) 'Lebhaft' meaning 'quick', 'brisk', or 'lively'. Schumann actually gives us his own metronome marking here of quarter note = 94, so we know exactly what he considered to be the right kind of tempo. However almost everyone I've whom ever heard play it does it as a presto or molto presto. Why is it that no one at all feels able to believe in Robert Schumann's own tempo indication ?
