The secret to D. madagascarensis appears to be feeding them regularly. The ones i don't feed have barely any leaves,are puny and hardly grow at all. The ones i feed regularly get big, and grow much faster/taller. I also grow them under fluorescent lights which allows them to color up quite nicely.
