  • great video! thanks for posting! i have a couple questions...

does the metal wiring that you're using to contain the compost ever start to rust? i plan on making a more permanent compost pile with pallet walls and a wire "liner"... think i'll have to change out the liner a lot?

also, what effect does rain have on a compost pile? should i get some sort of cover to prevent it from getting totally soaked? or is rain welcome?

    thanks! again, great vid!

  • @jimmyisaloser Rust won't harm the compost or soil at all. My wire fencing lasted many many years and kept on working without breaking or falling apart. If you want to avoid rust I think there's some galvanized wire fencing that stays clean. Also you can buy hog panel sections of fencing. They're thicker guage than regular fencing & last forever. Toss a small tarp loosely on the pile to keep rain from washing nitrogen out. leave the sides open to breath. It'll be fine. :)

  • Is it possible to build a pile so large that it gets hot enough to incinerate? And is it better to add more green for tomatoes? Ive heard they like more nitrogen in the soil.

  • @ben191209 Ben, stop trying to blow things up! LOL

But seriously, just pile it up and turn it weekely and nobody will get hurt. I've never seen a pile burst into flames. add as many greens as you want. The more the better. Your tomatoes, corn and leafy greens will go NUTS! :)

  • @Praxxus55712 +a huge white larva they lay and another bug i ve seen is allso thick half like a worm(but short )+the head of a cockroach -all black.I ve been told that eats the roots and kills the trees.

  • @delagrazia Those are grubs. They definitely will eat roots. Kill them when you see them. I don't have cockroaches in my area so I have no idea how to keep them away from compost. Sorry.

  • Thanks for the info,When I was making compost before I saw this video. I took a black plastic drum and cut a door in the side put some hinges on it, drilled a bunch of holes, then I filled it with grass clippings, vegetable scraps, and a little bit of dirt. I roll it around in the yard after watering it, I leave it in the sun. My way is way too difficult, I am doing it your way and it does make a big difference. Thanks again for making life simpler.

  • Thanks, nobody has ever really showed me how to really compost
