One of my most favorite Filipino rock songs which incorporates native Filipino instruments into hard driving rock and roll.
"45 Seconds (in July 16)" is composed by Reuel Carantes and performed by Bagiw. It is a song that was written in the aftermath of the cataclysmic Luzon earthquake of July 16, 1990 which devastated Baguio City, Cabanatuan City, Dagupan City, La Union and many other areas of Luzon.
Like a cloak of death
Dark clouds hovering above
As silver streaks of lightning
Ripping it apart
The air seemed filled
With an eerie golden brightness
As hail, like a million diamonds
Come rushing to the ground
Inayan, inayan pay sa
And thunder like an echo
of deep murmurings from the ground
Can you hear me
Someone help me
Can't you hear the cries beneath these walls
As I lie here
Praying you would hear my last tap on the wall.
Like endless minutes
in total blackness
Suddenly I fear the end is near
As I lie here
Hoping you would hear my last tap on the wall.
Where once a mighty tower proudly stood
and shone amidst the trees
A cloud of dust rises as it crumbles to the ground
And gazing far beyond where mountainsides
Were once clothed in green
Like a shattered wall
Strips of cream earth suddenly appear
Inayan, inayan pay sa
And thunder like an echo
Of deep murmurings from the ground.

When the Earth shakes humanity is humbled. Said to see, and know we are all living on a shifting planet.
