  • It was Noel Coward`s loss that he did not see the appeal of Jeanette`s sweet, child-woman vivacious coquette. I love both her and Nelson and think they complimented each other beautifully. Lorraine

  • @Gemini730 All the best to you Lorraine. Nice to hear from you.

  • as a purely historical footnote Noel Coward absolutely loathed this film and them in it. "I had forgotten" he said " Miss Macdonalds habit of fluttering and simpering all over the place. It was like watching a demented rocking horse making love to a gladstone bag."

I am a personal fan of Miss Macdonald so dont shoot me for publishing this!

  • @talmadge1926 Bang! Bang !!!

  • I;ve just read "Sweethearts" by Sharon Rich. These two were wonderful together.

  • "Though my world my go awry/In my heart will ever lie/Just the echo of a sigh/Goodbye"

Such internal rhymes! Such a wonderful lyric! Does anyone today even know what the word "awry" means, or how to embed "lie" in such a complex metaphor? Doubtful.

  • Beautiful singing, by two wonderful people with fantastic voices.Coward was a fool.

  • @baghend AGREE. COWARD WAS RUDE AND CRUDE . HIS WORK IS ACCEPTED AS BRILLIANT BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE AFRAID TO DISAGREE.

  • WHEN I DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN I WILL KNEEL BEFORE NELSON AND JEANETTE AMD SAY THANK YOU FOR ALL THE YEARS OF JOY I RECEIVED FROM THEIR MUSIC AND MOVIES. WHO THE HELL CARES IF NELSON WAS GAY OR JEANETTE WAS A DRAG QUEEN? THEY WERE STUNNING TOGETHER AND NOTHING CAN CHANGE THAT.......LOVE YOU ALWAYS......DENNIS

  • @talmadge1926 : that man was gay. perhaps that explains it best as far as his critique's wordings on her is concerned. as accomplished as he was, so were eddy and mcdonald and perhaps more so, in their field but his sexual orientation probably clouded his vision. it was not the time yet for 'la cage aux folles..

  • Go to t he Jeanette MacDonald International Fan Club for the truth about the many hapopy years of her marriage to Gene Raymond. But Nelson and Jeanette did work beautifully together.

  • Coward, for all his talent, and humble beginnings, was a snob, and a misogynist.

Jeanette MacDonald was brilliant, always. Poor old Nelson was a bit stiff but they are part of american-and World- movie history- how much poorer we would be without them, and the lovely music of that era.

  • @talmadge1926 Noel Coward had an sexual orientation the prevented him from seeing and appreciating a female with Ms MacDonalds ultra beautiful feminity. She was an absolute angel.

  • These 2 singing stars were always on my most favorite list for most of my life! Their voices complimented each other so well! I will love their music for the rest of my also! As to what Noel Coward said? He has a right to his opinion, but they must have been talented to have kept their fans for so many years; even after both their deaths! Liz

  • I admire both Jeanette, and Noel Coward, but I have to admit, when you consider the material this movie was based on, it's somewhat forgiveable, his rather blunt criticism of her acting. They were a great pair, but definitely not suited for Noel Coward's genius.
