@vidariusrex They died fools fighting for rich planters desperate to hold onto to an aristocratical lifestyle based entirely uppon the oppression of blacks. Sorry. They should have stayed put I guess.

@germophobe14 Just say "I am a racist" and get it over with already. Enough Southern revisionist b.s. already.
-
@rebelbruce28 Your history isn't true at all. It is Southern "Lost Cause" revisionist nonsense: "[The CSA government's] foundations are laid, its corner-stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth." Alexander Stephens, CSA Vice-President, 1861

@rebelbruce28 That is utterly untrue. The slave population in South was the largest it had ever been in 1861. And in fact Lincoln offered to buy freedom for the slaves of the non-seceding slave-holding border states (figuring it would cost less than just 8 months of war) and the all refused...even though Lincoln told them they would eventually lose slavery anyway. Yet the just couldn't let go. Enough Southern propoganda b.s. Pick up a legitimate history book.

@Darthbelal So what. He unwittingly was fighting to keep it going. He just didn't know that that's what he was fighting for. Rich man's war, poor man's fight.

@garretth4au "Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth." Alexander Stephens, Confederate Vice President,March '61. Nah, not about slavery at all.

@Shafeone He continues: "Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery subordination to the superior race is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth."
Davis was never tried for treason because constitutionally, the Southern States were correct in their belief that they were in a voluntary Union and thus could leave it should they so choose. It does not make the North/Federals right in their views because they "won" the war by burning cities and laying waste the Southern countryside; it makes them oppressors and conquerors. A house divided against itself is no longer a house; it is two houses, and Lincoln should have accepted that.

@shafeone I see you quoted Stephens. Those that don't understand the entire history of the war usually do. What most people don't care to research is that Stephens publicly opposed President Davis's administration. The two did NOT share the same beliefs and Stephens was not very well liked by the administration. Here's a quote for you. "We are fighting for Independence. Not slaves." -Jefferson Davis, PRESIDENT of the Confederate States of America. Perhaps you'd like another: "Slavery is our pol
