  • Really interesting project. Did you have to make many changes to the duratec's bottom half (con rods etc.) to get that sort of power out of it? sorry if it's a silly question.. just starting a kit project and learning from scratch!

  • @jimmytoolbox

Forged rods and 10:1 pistons. I changed the cams in the end as well and it made 291bhp and 240lbft @6300rpm at the flywheel with 9psi of boost

  • @jimmytoolbox Just forged rods and pistons. I ended up fitting Raceline 210 spec cams as well and it made 291bhp and 240lbft at the flywheel. Great fun,....

  • Ah ok cool, yea this is why I want to get a blower on my honda lump, to fatten out the torque curve. Bet it pulls well out of tight corners, autocross monster.

Having trouble linking to a printout of the rolling road plot, if you got to my website (customworkshop .co.uk) and click on projects > kit car then the printout is there.

Compare that to a 290bhp NA duratec and you'll see the difference.

  • Can I ask a stupid question? But why go supercharged when a Duratec could make 95% of that power NA? Unless this is just the start. Looks like it's had some money, love and effort put into it with roller bodies etc, would have expected to see 300hp like the blown K20s.

Hope I dont come across like the usual YT idiot, just want to know as looking at a rotrex blower for my elise.

Beacuse its far more driveable more low down torque and power. I swapped the cams and dyno'd it again and it made 291bhp and 240lbft @ 6300rpm with only 9 psi of boost. With 350bhp pretty easily achievable with more boost.

The guy who did the second rolling road session has a westy with a 290bhp NA duratec. His comments to me were that mine made more than double the torque and power at 3000rpm than his did.

I have this motor and make 230whp 214lbft on the stock motor, stock intake manifold, at 11psi turbocharged. My friend made 355whp 250lbft on the stock motor with a bigger turbo.

  • @theflakmonkey ok great will check it out.
