The Green Memorial AME Zion church music ministry - I think they mean "choir" - brought the roof of the Merrill Auditorium down as the closing act of this year's Martin Luther King music Celebration. Sponsored by the Greater Portland NAACP the performances run from a walking Burundi drumming group through Congolese Karaoke, Women in Harmony and kids. At 2:00 you hear why I love these guys so much as they just power through sustained chords - pure support and drive, which not every group there did. And at 4:00 the crowd stands to clap and we get the inevitable "clap gospel on 1 & 3, New Englanders" as opposed to "2 & 4 like everyone else" - that drives me NUTS - still, a fun evening.
