Here is George Benson sitting-in with Jack McDuff during Jack's set at the 1992 Mellon Jazz Festival Organ Jam in Philadelphia produced by 'Mr. C'. Mickey Roker was on drums.

  • not Ortliebs ... it was in a very large theater in Philadelphia (like a convention center)

  • Thank you - Eddie McFadden was there as well as Mickey Roker. It was Father's Day 1992

  • You are welcome... Please say 'Hi' to Everette for me. He's a good friend and one of the GREATS! also, watch out for Chris Hazelton in KC!

  • thanks man this is really a treasure! bless you!

  • You are welcome! I'll look around for more...

  • Fantastic. The joy and affection between them is obvious, like long-lost cousins remembering their "chitlin" days. Top-shelf playing too!

  • Thanks for all the nice comments. When I shot this I was off stage with a group of very enthusiastic people. Joey DeFrancesco was there and he kept stepping into my frame. I wish I could have been closer but thank Goodness I got what I got.

  • Me too

  • i like Benson in his Straightahead Jazz days when he played with McDuff better then the water down Smooth Jazz Pop stuff.

  • good music. It seems to me, thst program of Jack McDuff is more various then thr program of another organist - Eddy Landsberg. Jack McDuff plays jazzrock, jazz sambas and certainly blues

  • i miss the george of his early albums, it's nice to know he's still in there somewhere.

  • george is just way too experienced.. that kind of skill doesn't come over night.. and he's always got the best licks

  • was this at ortliebs?

  • You dont see George smile like this anymore he was hav'n a ball here.

  • Jack McDuff discovered George Benson while performing at the Crawford Grill, #2 at 2141 Wylie Ave. Pittsburgh PA. 15219. George had his own local combo, The Alltiers, who were playing across the street at Masons. The legendary Crawford Grill was recently purchased by a group of investors that include former Steeler football star, Franco Harris with intentions of restoring it to it's original heyday lustre.
