This is my 77 Chevy pickup at the track. It has a stock 454 with a Weiand intake and long tube headers, TH350 trans with a shift kit, and dual exhaust. The second run I had a slight traction(tried to launch to hard with an open rear)problem and I figured since I already had lost I would hold the burnout for a while

  • how big of a difference was there after you added the shift kit. im going to be getting the same one for my th350 but wanted to hear from some people who have one first

  • The stock trans had 128K on it when I got it and with the 454 at WOT it would not make the 2-3 shift unless I lifted. I installed the shift kit and set it up for its hardest shift and it was always chirping the 1-2 and the 2-3 was really hard and fast. So I would say it saved my trans because the 454 would have killed it otherwise. Hope this helps. Oh and I left my kickdown cable unhooked because the 454 had so much torque it never needed to downshift plus I liked shifting manually anyway

  • The intake is a Weiand Action Plus for peanut port heads, the carb was an Edelbrock 1406(600CFM), it has cheapo Hedman long tube headers, and 2 1/2" pipes with Thrush turbo mufflers. It has the stock TH350 with 130K on it and a B&M shift improver set for street/strip. The rear is the stock open 12 bolt with 3.42 gears and the slicks were 28x8.50x15

  • The heads were stock open chamber small oval port with small valves, the cam was stock, and it has a Melling M77HV oil pump and steel shaft.

  • so all u had on the 454ci was carb intake headers ?? did u have stock cam? stock heads? ??????

  • what kinda of heads did u have them ? did u have stock cam? so all u had was intake carb ,headers, and exhust? and shift kit?

  • An open rear has no locker or posi(one tire fryer). The differential carrier has nothing to lock the axles together.

  • I love the truck too. If I would not have promised it to my buddy I would sell my Camaros instead and keep it.

  • Are you gonna leave the TBI on it? I would. I always wanted to convert mine to TBI. My Edeljunk carb was a mess from day 1. It always ran good off idle but the idle sucked and it liked to freeze up in the cold. I like the TBI because I can make it run the same but I can program the timing and fuel. And I don't need to deal with a choke or anything. Plus TBI looks like a carb with wires anyway. You are lucky, your 87 has all the TBI stuff there already.

  • what do you mean by a open rearend ? my truck only has one tire spinning at the momment . and i will be getting a detriot locker so thay both spin . just not sure what you mean by a open rearend.
