Even though it was a commemoration of a day in which Native Americans offered food and shelter to white Europeans and in return the Europeans slaughtered the Natives, according to Wafaa' Al-Natheema (INEAS founder), the National Day of Mourning on November 27 was uplifting, colorful, aromatic (with lovely incense) and spiritual.

The first speaker in this clip is the Spanish-based Juan Gonzalez.

We strongly recommend watching Part II, which includes a superb speech by Elena Ortiz.

The first speaker in this part of the clip is Juan Gonzalez, who spoke on behalf of the Council of Maya Elders.

The second speaker is Moonanum James, co-leader of UAINE, related the history of the National Day of Mourning. Moonanum James is the son of Wamsutta Frank James, who founded UAINE and initiated the first National Day of Mourning in 1970.

The clip concludes with Bert Waters reading prisoner Leonard Peltier's message.

We apologize for the few technical problems in the editing.
