NBC had such great offerings during the season of 1988-89, with the Olympics in Seoul, the World Series (Dodgers-Athletics) and Super Bowl XXIII (49ers-Bengals), along with a lot of other superstar programming, and, yes, Jay Leno would succeed Johnny Carson four years later.
