Shane Warne Song

Hi all -

I was watching this year's Sydney Ashes test on TV around the same time as listening to Lord Kitchener's (aka Aldwyn Roberts) great calypso song London Is The Place For Me. The Kitchener tune suggested to me a new set of lyrics based on the adventures of Shane Warne.

My friend, Andy Doherty, filmed the live recording of the song at my place with Sian Prior playing clarinet and Ray Pereira on congas and djembe. Adam Rhodes engineered it in the shed.

@australia1nbr1 This is the problem with too many cricket fans. Warne's not perfect, and I'm sure he'll never claim that, but the fact is he was a brilliant bowler. Rather than spending every Youtube comment saying that Murali, Warne and the rest are cheats, and that other cricketers are racists, why not appreciate their talents, or possibly put forward cases for other cricketers to be worshipped. As an English cricket fan, it's a great shame that we never have to face Warnie again.

The fact remains this is a great social commentary...and yes both Warnie & Kelly are geniuses...and none of us are perfect, not even them! How good is that clarinet?

Shane Warne may take part in questionable off field activities and may have taken less wickets than Murali, but no bowler in the history of the game has been better at psychologically dominating their opposition.

Besides, this is a song. No point fighting about it. Paul Kelly was just documenting a moment in his mind and sharing it with the world.
