The awesome Greek percussionist Vagelis Karypis, joined by Jeremy Fitzsimons, Laurence Reese, Bruce McKinnon, and Steve Bremner. The opening fade-in is the last section of Fertility Rites #2 by Christos Hatzis, performed by Jeremy Fitzsimons. This is followed by Vagelis cross-fading on the toubeleki. From the 2006 Wellington Festival of the Arts concert of the show "Zeibekiko" by John Psathas. This performance by NZ contemporary ensemble Stroma, led by Hamish McKeich, features the greek musicians around whom the concert was devised - Manos Achalinotopoulos (Clarino) and Vagelis Karypis (percussion). "Zeibekiko was originally commissioned by The Netherlands Blazers Ensemble and premiered by that awesome group in Holland in 2004. This concert also features music by John Psathas (who conceived and produced the program), Christos Hatzis, Mesomedes of Crete, Seikilos, and Manos Achalinotopoulos. Photography by Robert Catto (Wellington Festival), Keith Hill (images of Manos alone), and Netherlands Blazers Ensemble booklet.
