  • can anyone clear up my ignorance. why are some Theravada monks clad in red while others in orange?-different sects? if so how many color robed sects are there?-thanx

  • @arivas713 It's not important what is color:)

  • Hey i heard that after many years of visual meditation (imagining detailed images and all that) The theravada monks are able to in effect 'learn' how to have a photographic memory. Is this true? and if so What type of meditation is it?

  • @flare765 Each meditation is possible to develop the mind:)

  • @arivas713 it is nikayasa or sects. in sri lanka there are three sects wearing brownish orange, orange & yellowish orange.

  • @Chamath5A Yes, i am completely mental. I have many Buddhist monks as friends, i know lots of them chose to be celibate, but i know some that aren't shuch as in Pureland and Zen.

  • @Undech01 Iv'e always wondered, thanx!

  • @arivas713 it only depends on what dyes are available in those countries.

  • @arivas713 The colours are not too dificult to understand. In the Mahanikaya sect of Theravada, city monks wear the bright orange robes like this monk, and the forest monks wear a more muted and earthy orange. The Dhammayutta Nikaya monks only wear the muted orange. I think the same goes for Cambodia, and I think that all Sri Lankan monks use the same system with forest and city monks. All Burmese Theravada monks wear a sort of burgundy colour.

  • සාදු සාදු සාදු

  • @neuroglejak oh i understand that, call it simple curiosity on my part, but i have always wondered what the different colors mean.u see i have an interest in theravada buddhism and indochinese (do people still use this term?) culture in general, and ur vid and others like it only seem to have widen my curiosity, i guess they call it armchair vacationing.-keep up the good work- thumbs up too.

  • Kisina meditations become like photographic memories, but that is only a minor technique.
