Hey i actually am going to move to Hawaii in a few months i have heard rumors that if your not a tourist and you want to live in Hawaii they treat you badly? because you so called "taking our land" i'm not worried about it just a question for misunderstandings.

i'm going to Waikiki this summer, and it reminds me alot of New York Time Square in a way. so much performers, and people putting on fake attitudes because they all want your money. *sigh*

This is the Island of Oahu, and the images you have seen were from Waikiki - which is a part of Honolulu. Walk along the beach or along Ala Wai and you will recognize everything has has been talking about. But this place does provide only a fraction of the Aloha spirit, if you really wan to experience the true Hawaii you need to pick one of the other islands and a BIG wallet since life isn't cheap there.
Aloha, Dirk

WHAT Island???
You didn't mention what Island, dude.
I wish I knew the numeric specifics of how much it costs to live there, like RENT, GROCERIES, LIGHTS, WATER ... etc.
overall, good informative vid. a bit arrogant though-especially with the vibe towards tourists. just out of curiosity, how long have you lived in the islands?

@gliza - heh, I was just teasing. We actually do love tourists, but don't tell anyone ;) I've lived here for 5 years now. I think I shot this when I first moved here, and I was being a smartass.

Hey...I liked this! Nicely produced, and well thought out...you even sound a bit like Rick Steves! Very nice...although as a resident of the Big Island I found it interesting that you chose to use Ahu'ena Heiau as an example of a grass hut (man, it's royal cathedral!)--but you managed to capture a lot of what I try to tell my mainland friends about Hawai'i.
They don't have electricity in Wai'anae? I've never been brave enough to go farther than Ko'olina!

thank you. Isn't that heiau the holiest of holy sites? Glad you recognized. It was the only "hut" I could find in a short period of time. I did this video mainly for people on the mainland, who have no idea what living in Hawaii must be like. Anyway, I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
