Thus when the Swallow, seeking Prey,
Within the Sash is closely pent,
His Comfort, with bemoaning Lay,
Without sits pining for th' Event.
Her chatt'ring Lovers all around her skim;
She heeds them not (poor Bird!) her Soul's with him.
Polly Peachum - Olga Grechko (sop)
Ensemble La Stravaganza
dir Svetlana Shivelova (and solo pipe)

  • Embarrassing: this is not opera, where acting is arguably irrelevant, but ballad opera, where the play's the thing. The words are inaudible, the graceless prancing laughable, the hand gestures caricatures of acting. Macheath was pardoned at the end to please the audience; this Polly should be sent to the gallows for the same reason.

  • Perfect,wonderful!!
