the r4 is NOT illegal, it is illegal if you have ROMs on your r4 that you do not own.

hi zchal66,
i'm thinking of getting an R4DS, but i'm not sure which one! i don't trust any seller! there are a few different ones from R4. i know that i have to be aware that there are non-english versions, so that's sorted.
there's one that says only "R4" on it and it's the 3rd version, is it even the real thing? how do i spot if it's exactly original or not?
which one should i get?
can anyone help me please?
hope this is not too much to ask, i'm new and lost!

Hi, i have a question aabout the R4 ds (or cycleDS) Do the roms have specific regions? as in if i download a rom from the usa, would it still work in my english DS with english R4?

The games are region free, so it doesn't matter where your DS was bought, it will play games from any region.
Also, your save game is "slaved" to the game's region (so if you play a game from EU, it will only "find" your EU savegame - not a problem as you end up sticking with what you downloaded anyway).
In short, you can play pretty much ANY game.
Also, wrt the R4 I have yet to come across even a single game that doesn't work with the current firmware (v1.18) - even Castlevania runs properly.

It should say next to to the download look for 'E' which is 'English'.
