Once upon a time there was a man called "Teddy" Kollek, a Jew from Vienna, who was the mayor of anybody in Jerusalem, even the despised Arabs. That was when nobody had really feared for Israel's democracy. Kollek died a sad, disillusioned man, and I think that his and Rabin's death will be regarded as the death of Israel's democracy in years to come.
