this song, as well as so many other Lightfoot songs, has an awesome bass line that really compliments the other parts :)

@datalal624 Also, given that he's talking about a burning lamp, maybe the song is set in some time long ago, not Gordon himself in the '70s. And, well, I hope people don't stop writing songs set in the past. But you're partly right that songs like this won't be written ever again---because there's only one Gordon Lightfoot. :)

@OysterLava I think the song is more about how he misses being near his love, and feeling her touch, etc.-- I'm presuming he could just call her up, but that a phone call isn't really enough in the chill of a winter's night. Songs will always be written about that sort of longing, I think... Even in the future, when we can call up a holographic image of a lover that feels real, I bet it still won't feel the same as the real thing.

@OysterLava I don't know whats more depressing, the fact no one has tried to prove you wrong or the fact that this comment one of the highest rated for this awesome song. The age of Music has truly passed.

@crowleysridgegirl Yes it is truly one of the best GL songs ever recorded. I am proud to be Canadian when I hear Gord sing. Just curious, what part of the world are you from?
