Great suggestions. Just a tip: Always consult your client prior to the event, as to what mix of genres that you think will go well with their guests.

I tried to get a DJ to play Phoenix by Daft Punk once. It didn't work. If that's not keeping it familiar, I don't know what is.

Dude what is the point of a DJ if your droping music at a Bar/club. I totally understand being that way at a wedding or a small reception maybe a sweet sixteen party..but at a club?? Your skills are shown infront of 500 hundred people, when your mixing on beat. scratching vocals w/e the case is. If your just going to drop music mind as well throw a juke box.
Dont get me wrong your video is helpful but I dont agree with you on something.
Good luck!

You don't beat mix at bars/clubs? When do you then? I beat mix when ever I can ... yes, even at weddings once the party starts going (and the tame people have left). I have a ton of older stuff that's beat mixable for ALL ages (Sweet Home Al., Old Time R & R, Brown Eyed Girl...etc.) It makes them feel like they are the place to be on that night! I give them what the other DJs at the bars around here can't! They leave my party and go to the club w/ a DJ sittin behind a laptop not beatmixing!
Hey Bri; thanks so much for positng this video. I am doing a wedding reception for a friend who really cant afford a high price. I have a vast collection but I would love to know what your top ten songs are to play there. Loved the vid. cant wait for part two. it was like having a mentor. thanks again.

Part 2 has been up for months. I can't post a link in comments, but it's called "Bar And Wedding DJ Music Ideas Part 2".

There is also a recent video up about "Middle OF The Road" songs. It's in the "Hey Brian" series. Check that one out for several people's top wedding song picks.

Wrong! Beatmixing in a bar is very crucial and needed to keep the flow going properly. If you are not beatmixing at the bar then maybe you should give it a try

What I do in my videos is only offer my oppinions and try to share some experience with thoes who are curious. Everyone does things differently. I'd never tell anyone they were wrong per say. This is going to greatly depend on what region of the world or the USA you live in and what kind of bar you are playing at.
