One of the most important and memorable special effects sequences in the history of horror films is the transformation of David Kessler played by David Naughton into the titular werewolf of An American Werewolf in London. The scene was most striking in that, for the first time, it was filmed in a brightly lit setting. All the effects seen are real physical workings created by master SFX technician Rick Baker. • Animatronics can beat CGI any day.

  • no matter how many times i see that transformation i nevr cease to be amazed by what was able to be accomplished by rick baker and his crew. let them keep CGI nothing gets you to react like an existing real life character

  • My favorite werewolves are the ones in Vanhelsing! Don't judge if I didn't spell it right lol

  • uh the thing creeps me out

  • Um. Not much difference there...

  • @plasticpals1 Sure, I agree. Having said that, have you ever seen a better transformation scene in THIRTY YEARS? Nope. Not even close. Even with render farms full of quad-core 3.5gHz processors, nothing has ever come even remotely close to An American Werewolf in London. I think it will happen eventually, but people have a lot to learn about CGI stuff first.

  • @jmarvelman85 Nonsense. Rick Baker plays with the CGI toys, too (sculpts in Zbrush). Art is art, regardless of the medium in which it is created.

  • @MproductionsMovies Of course it can, CGI is like a cartoon, being something that does not exist in the real world, and has no organic content. Animatronics etc. have organic content and can be felt in the real world. Contrary to the claims of some, CGI will never look more real than animatronics or even puppetry because for that reason.

  • I said this before, I'll say it again. They should try this again, this time with a girl. 100% more sexier.

  • This was what won Rick Baker the Oscar!

  • Looks like an uncle of mine

  • It's called a "Change-o-head"
