1993 Cicero North Syracuse Northstars Band

"Goin South" a theme named for the fact the band was heading to Florida for the Bowl Games of America Championships that coming holiday season and the musical selections had a bit of southern swing and affect to them. "Alex's Rag", "Sweet Georgia Brown", "Amazing Grace" and "God's trying to tell ya something" The opener, "Alex's Rag" is the only piece of music the Northstars have played since 1991 that was not arranged by Tony Maio. The percussion book was by the talented Ron Keck , guard by Marian Lillie, Vickie Savage, Tami Conrad. Visual design by Ron Abate'. This particular program was placing 1st 2nd or 3rd all season long in NY state shows and at the Dome..5th. Quite a ruckous was raised by that placment as even local AM station, 5.40 WSYR had callers on Monday AM after the championships speaking on behalf of the band and some very emotional leavings. The Northstars regrouped on the dome floor that night, and knowing they had one big show left to go over the christmas break, "They went for it all". Ironically, that trip to Jacksonville and the solid performances by the band in both parade and the field show over such powerhouses as Piscataway HS and East Lyme, the Northstars cemented exactly what Tony Maio was quoted in the local papers saying upon the return as National champions..."We were a quality band all season long, and this win did validate that for the students." The Northstars won most captions in both the parade and the field show. Upon return to NY on January 1 2004, the town of Cicero did a proclamation for "Northstar Band Day" and the program never quite looked back. This Bowl Game of America championship was the 3rd in the Bands History (Citrus 1986, Holiday 1989 and Gator in 1993).
