Rusty's only top 10 Country hit came way back in 1953 with 'Gambler's Guitar' which reached high in the Pop charts as well. He straddled the line between Pop, Country and Rock 'n Roll and had hits with songs such as 'Are You Satisfied', 'Freight Train', 'Mule Skinner Blues', 'Night Life' and others.
Here Dusty gives a fine version of the old Cowboy Copas, Bob Atcher, Texas Jim Robertson and Jimmy Wakely hit versions from 1948. George Morgan and Lefty Frizzell also recorded the song and Cowboy Copas repeated his 1948 hit again in 1961. Nowadays Rusty is virtually a forgotten name with very little product available, but with the copyrights time span running out more of music should become available in the near future.

  • Rusty is virtually an unknown name here in the UK and is probably virtually forgotten in the States. As you say, he was an excellent guitarist. I think his version of 'Green Green Grass Of Home' is the best I've ever heard. He wasn't strictly a Country singer, but he could appeal across the board like say, a Marty Robbins, Jim Reeves or Don Gibson.

  • gee memories of time gone by like mum used to play this 30years ago shes gone now but so many memories thanks for putting this on here kenny the legend

  • Strange but James Brown of all people made an r & B version of this song in 1963. Totally different yet the same song, same lyrics.

  • From what I understand he sung the theme song for Walt Disney's Zorro television series.

  • I have all but the first three records you showed. Back to the record store.

I got to play with him New years Eve 1980. What a great Guitar player and Singer. Miss going to the Warf to see him and when he came in the music store to buy strings.

  • Great song.
