  • Dr. Young passed away on July 29, 2011 and I shared this video with his wife, Betty today, the day after his memorial. This was NOT arranged by Rutter, but was one of Dr. young's signature pieces. It was beautifully performed and we thank you for leaving this legacy for him. • @JoinerRoberta Hi, Roberta. Thanks so much for your note. I will forward your comment on to Dr. Wynkoop. The Choral Society performs many arrangements by Robert Young, and we are thrilled that you shared this performance with his wife. All best wishes!

  • Absolutely the best rendition of this song on Youtube. Thank you for not rushing through it like all the others and losing all of the dynamics and emotional impact. I'm literally in tears here. Thank you so much!

  • I completely agree, zattin. I attended the performance at Duke Chapel, and it was absolutely the highlight of the Christmas season for me. How wonderful to be able to relive it through such an excellent video!

  • That last "transeamus" gets me a little choked up every time. I want to see if I can convince my choir director to include this next Christmas as a quartet piece for the section leaders.

  • I'm singing this in my high school top a capella choir. It is very hard, but such a beautiful song.

  • What couldnt I be there

  • What a Balance of the voices. NO ONE is louder than the other.. The tenors at 3:55-4:00!!! Thank you so much for posting..

  • wow perfect blend! that piece always gives me goosebumps whether im singing it or not. anything arranged by john rutter is blessed. thank you for reminding me of the unearthly splendors of a resounding choir! i need to start singing again.

  • I honestly think he could have done more with the phrasing in the beginning section. He could have used so much rubato to make it not so boring! but the choir sounds lovely!

  • Freakin' Yeah....This is the video I used to reveiw for my choir test in High School

    It's the best recording and performance of this song anywhere on youtube....

    Nuff' Said.... : }

  • Excellent performance in a perfect setting!

    Thank you!
