Here's a rare one. Check out that label! I wonder how many of these exist. The label was a paste over and has peeled a little bit over the years. It was probably put on the record by a member of the group or a one of their friends (fan club maybe?). What a cool piece of history. They were appearing in The Torchlight in Mentor, Ohio starting September 2, 1961. I wonder how long that went on for.

  • Dion wrote this and recorded it on an album. I actually like this version better, a little bouncier. Joey and the Continentals were a terrific dance band, extremely popular on the east side of Cleveland in the early Sixties. They were at their best doing the wild stuff like Devil With a Blue Dress On, You Can't Sit Down, and Jenny Jenny Jenny. But Joey also excelled at ballads. I always remember his You Belong To Me. He was great!

  • What a cool and awesome song. Thanks for posting it.

  • Does anyone have " No one can make my sunshine smile" ? Joey & The Continentals did it in 1964,I have a copy on the " ABLE" label.

  • @gendres1 hey - excuse me - do you live there still? Is eli ave. near there? That's where my mom grew up. Should would have been 20 yrs old in 1955. She used to hang out with girls calling themselves the Eli Ave. Blockbusters...jus' wondering. thanks

  • Great fine Pj. nice post

  • @nattyrose3

I can. I've been listening to Dion and the Belmonts for 40 years now. In fact, I'm not far from his old neighborhood in the Bronx, near Arthur Ave. Little Italy. But, this Joey guy is very similar. He's probably the closest to Dion's impersonators I've ever heard.

  • I guess Dion made some recordings using another name to double his salary :-)
